
I’ve always been skeptical when people buy Apple computer products and claim to be going open source. The fact is that a significant chunk of OS X is far from being open source, including most of what users interact with everday (with the exception of Safari).
Additionally, around the time the x86 version of OS X was released for the new Intel Macs, Apple took the Darwin kernel in-house and stopped releasing the code.
However, Apple have recently had a (slight) change of heart.
