Open Source Soccer

The World Cup ended today with Italy squeaking out a win over France. In commemoration of this thrilling match, I thought I’d take a quick look around Sourceforge.net for some soccer-related open source projects. To my surprise, there are quiet a few (136 to be exact), with some seeing tens of thousands of downloads. A list of the more interesting projects I found follows:

League Modules of PHP-Nuke
Users of the popular PHP-Nuke can add this module to their site, tracking not only soccer statistics, but also football, hockey, and baseball.

Bolzplatz 2006
Bolzplatz is a 3-D soccer game capable of running on both Windows and Linux. It’s a rather large download at 92MB, and the game controls and commentary are in German, but the graphics are pretty cool. Well-worth a look.

tplLeagueStats
tplLeagueStats is a PHP/MySQL-based web application used for tracking team and player statistics.
