Petting the PuppyOS

Jun 20, 01:24 pm

There’s a curious fashion right now for small Linux distros that run straight from CDs/memory sticks. One of the most promising is PuppyOS. Take a look for yourself. It can squeeze down to just 50MB and the focus is on functional, so the PuppyOS developers aren’t afraid to offer proprietary software like Flash Player. But perhaps most useful is that the whole system is designed to fit in memory, meaning it runs pretty quick.

There’s a very healthy community over at the PuppyOS website and hacking PuppyOS in every which way is encouraged. Of course, it’s also posible to install PuppyOS to the hard disk, making for something known as “hard Puppy”.
